Description: Partial remediation of the cooling tower cup by means of a radio-controlled demolition robot, which was specially designed for this project.
The object to be rehabilitated is an approx. 140 m high cooling tower with a diameter of approx. 100 m, which is part of an operating coal-fired power plant. MB Spezialabbruch was commissioned with the development of a technical solution for the prompt and safe clearing of the cooling tower bottom, which would prevent damage to the cooling tower shell as well as the cup bottom under all circumstances. The rehabilitation concept also had to take into account the fact that it was not possible for our personnel to enter the cooling tower cup in the area of the trickle grate structure for safety reasons. In order to meet these boundary conditions, special radio-controlled equipment was used. Our demolition robot was equipped for this purpose with several IP camera systems, which transmitted the image material from the demolition area in real time to the monitor at the control station outside the cooling tower. This procedure enabled the work to be carried out safely and quickly.
